About

I’m Xingyu Chen, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Statistics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). I’m fortunate to be advised by Professor Lin Liu.

My research interests focus on causal inference and mathematical statistics, including high-dimensional statistics, higher-order U-statistics, statistical computing, statistical-computational tradeoff, semiparametric theory, nonparametric theory, inverse problems, and efficiency theory.

Before joining SJTU, I received my B.S. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics in 2023 from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST).

⚡ Fun fact: “0714” in my ID “cxy0714” is the official subject code for Statistics in the Chinese Ministry of Education’s classification system—where “007” denotes Science and “0701” denotes Mathematics. (source)

In February 2011, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved a reform that elevated Statistics from a sub-discipline jointly under Mathematics and Economics to an independent 一级学科 (first-level discipline), on par with its former parents. (source)

  • September 23, 2026 — Our paper “On Computing and the Complexity of Computing Higher-Order U-Statistics, Exactly” is now published online in Statistics and Computing, 36(5), Article 223 (2026). It was accepted before the journal’s transition to fully open access (fully OA).

  • August 26, 2026 — Our paper “On Computing and the Complexity of Computing Higher-Order U-Statistics, Exactly” has been accepted by Statistics and Computing.

  • June 24, 2026 — Our R package HOIF is now available on CRAN! It implements Higher-Order Influence Function (HOIF) estimators for the Average Treatment Effect (ATE).

  • June 18, 2026 — Our R package ustats is now available on CRAN! It implements our paper “On Computing and the Complexity of Computing Higher-Order U-Statistics, Exactly” (arXiv:2508.12627), as an extension of our existing Python package u-stats-Python.
